Dell unveils the peripherals of the future

Dell has introduced the Pro 7 wireless set (catalogue number - KM746), which includes a mouse and keyboard that do not rely on the usual rechargeable packs or disposable batteries. Instead, both devices use supercapacitors, allowing the peripherals to be topped up in a matter of seconds. According to the company, a five-second charge is enough for roughly a day of use, while five minutes on charge delivers up to one and a half months of battery life for the mouse and up to three months for the keyboard.

Dell highlights that the key strength of supercapacitors is their extremely fast charging and the fact they show almost no performance degradation over time. Compared with lithium-ion batteries, they are less prone to wear and, unlike disposable batteries, they do not need routine replacement. Dell also considers supercapacitors to be safer in terms of fire risk. The company has not yet disclosed the Pro 7 price, but has confirmed that sales in the United States will begin on 16 April.

Safety, longevity and growing interest in supercapacitors

As CNews notes, interest in supercapacitors has been rising in recent years in Russia as well, with work under way on new materials and components for these energy storage systems. Earlier, Russian researchers also suggested using unusual raw materials in supercapacitor production, including hogweed stems.
